High Heeled Shoe

This sketch in the book so clearly indicated a high heeled shoe.
Wondering how I could hide that shape in another unrelated drawing, I suddenly imagined the lines of a graph.
I opted for a standard 𝒙 𝒚 graph. It's up to you to decide what the graph measures!

Tintin

My sister is a bird watcher, so this 'tuft' initially made me think of puddle ducks--a feathery tail upended while the duck feasted below the water surface. But more than the duck, I saw the hair of Tintin, the beloved character of The Adventures of Tintin series.

Robin in a Tree

It's amazing how the mind will automatically strive to make sense of what it sees, often by filling in the gaps. By filling in the gap and 'seeing' these Vs joined, a heart shape immediately comes to mind. But what else, I wondered, could these marks suggest? Possibilities are endless.
What might you have drawn?

Why This Blog?

One day in the book store, I stumbled upon a stack of Complete this Drawing, published by Piccadilly Inc. Curiosity rose. I saw simple lines on each page that suggested what the drawing on that page should be when completed.
Well...
The rebel in me challenged that suggestion. The artist in me decided I could use those initial lines and go in an unexpected direction. I had to have this book.

By posting my forays 'outside that box' I hope to encourage you to consider your own art work. Is there an edge you can push further? Can you surprise yourself with what your marks reveal?

I couldn't resist the cardboard cover of this book--so perfectly suited for color pencils. I couldn't wait to get started on my adventure, so I began drawing right on the cover.

Pencils sharpened and ready--let's go!
